**“This buff-red mineral is orthoclase feldspar — a key mineral of the continental crust. Notice its two perfect cleavages meeting at 90 degrees — that right angle is a major diagnostic clue. Orthoclase has a hardness of 6, a glassy to pearly luster, and breaks into clean, blocky fragments. It forms deep inside the Earth during slow cooling of magma and is common in granite, pegmatite, and gneiss. If you see buff-red colour + 90° cleavage — think orthoclase!”**
